Today also marked the greatly anticipated return of the WJS Poetry Slam! Over the past couple of weeks, each class has practised, performed and recorded their chosen poem. This year a wide variety of poem styles were selected, varying from ‘Walking with my Iguana’ to ‘Dog in the Playground’. The event also celebrated some of our favourite poets including: Berlie Doherty, Michael Rosen, Alan Ahlberg to name a few. This afternoon, all of the children had the opportunity to enjoy watching all of the creative class performances and cast their votes for their favourites! Next week, after totalling the children’s votes, we will be revealing the winning classes of the Poetry Slam – but whichever performance is voted the most popular, we hope that this extended curriculum opportunity has been an enjoyable one for everyone, I certainly loved seeing the children perform so confidently and expressively, what superstars we have at Westfields!
